Event FAQ
Are there any requirements to participate in these events?
- Anyone going on the ice will need to sign a waiver when they check-in. Those under 18 years of age will need to have a youth waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian. (Waivers can be reviewed in advance on our Policies page.)
- For Youths:
- We recommend our Family Learn to Curl for ages 6+ because it’s specifically geared towards instructing youth and their families.
- However, ages 7+ are allowed at Learn to Curls and Open Houses with the presence of a guardian.
- If you are registering a minor, please fill out their age in the ticket registration to help us plan and personalize their experience.
- If participants are 21+, please bring ID. The club does have a bar with full beer and liquor privileges.
Curling is a great sport for all ages–from youth to senior. At Petersham, we offer a youth program with a minimum age of 5 years old to go on the ice. At the other end of the spectrum, we have members who are in their 60’s and 70’s, with some even starting the sport upon retirement. No matter your age, curling is a great way to stay active and be part of an enthusiastic community!
What should I wear for an on-ice experience?
Please be sure to bring clean, rubber-soled shoes to go on the ice. Why? Clean shoes help to protect the quality of the ice for curling. The rubber helps with your traction on the ice. We suggest you change from outdoor shoes to your clean shoes at the club.
Warmth and flexibility to move are prime considerations for clothing:
- Outdoor running pants, thermal leggings, or sweatpants tend to work well. Jeans should either be loose or stretchy enough, if you plan to get into a lunge position for stone delivery.
- Polar fleece, sweatshirts, or lightweight winter jackets are popular options. Consider layering because you may warm-up while curling.
- Wearing a hat and gloves are recommended.
I don’t think I can get into a lunge position to throw a stone. Can I still curl?
Yes, a number of our members use a special “stick” for stone delivery while standing instead of the standard lunge-position delivery you see on TV. We’re happy to show you how to throw with a stick!
Is curling as easy as it looks??
Yes and no. Curling is an easy sport to learn. However, players are always working to improve their abilities and strategy. Olympic curlers are highly skilled athletes with great balance and years of training–they often make incredibly difficult shots look easy.
Will food be provided for those with dietary restrictions at the Family Learn to Curls or Watch Party?
Regretfully, we are unable to accommodate dietary restrictions for any complimentary food offered at these events. If needed, you are welcome to come with your own food. However, bringing in outside alcoholic beverages is prohibited.
What is your refund policy?
You may cancel for a full refund up to 7 days before the event.
